Herts Junior Lge - Home - WGC
Won (conceded)
Welwyn Garden City 238-7; Hatfield 274-4 - Hatfield conceded as they had fielded over age players.
Both teams eager to play 1st match of the season, Hatfield fielded mixed age range which was agreed with WGC. WGC won the toss, Captian Nick decided to bowl first. Pierce bowled out Sam in 1st over of the match, other wickets taken by Keaton, James and Max. Hatfield brothers Jack & Luke notched up nett total of 30 runs without loss. Well done to Rebecca for her gutsy performance.
Max & Nick opened for WGC but unfortunately lost 2 wickets; Pierce & Ethan partnership got 11 runs without loss, Adam and Owen played a careful partnership not taking opportunities to run and lost 2 wickets. Keaton and James last to bat, both appeared over eager attempting to slog for 4 and lacked communication resulting in the loss of 3 wickets in their partnership. Fun for all but a lot for WGC to take back to the training ground to concentrate on.

Herts Junior Lge - Away

Old Albanian 238-5 beat Welwyn Garden City 227-12 by 11 runs
On a drizzly, damp Sunday morning Old Albanian won the toss and decided to field, Pierce and Max opened the batting for WGC and faced strong bowling by James losing 3 wickets. Ben and Dan paired up for their 1st competitive match for WGC, with Ben finding the boundary for a 4 and Jack taking two wickets. Nick and Owen got a steady run rate but lost wickets due to run outs, with the final batting pair of Keaton and Ethan notching up a 27 run partnership.
The rain stopped when Old Albanian went into bat. The 1st batting pair George and Joe faced strong bowling by Keaton and Ethan losing 4 wickets with a great catch by Nick. Scott and Ansh also playing their 1st game batted well for 22 runs. Steady bowling from Ben and Dan hitting the stumps in his 1st over. Final batting pair Alex & Ted faced Owen & Nick who reduced the score. Old Albanian concentrated hard on not to losing a wicket in the final overs and this was critical in their close win as the WGC fielding was solid thoughout.

WGC 294-5 (20 pts) beat St Albans 211-8 (2pts) by 83 runs
St Albans won the toss deciding to bat first with opening partnership David and Ted notching up 17 runs at a steady rate and 1st wicket went in the 6th over caught by James bowled by Pierce. Girl partnership Suzie & Molly were very keen with Suzie connecting bat to ball, during their session two wickets went to Adam and catch of the match goes to Keaton bowled by Max. Final over bowled by Nick saw the loss of a further 3 wickets with a great display of field work by the team with a stupping and a good catch by Adam.
Keaton & Nick opened for WGC scoring 16 runs loosing 2 wickets with a very good stupping by Molly and excellent bowling by Max. Middle batting pairs Pierce & Ethan, Adam & Max run rate was assisted with wides and both pairs showed improved communication amongst eachother. Final pair Captain Owen & James worked extremely well together with James alone getting 20 runs including 2 fours - very enjoyable match to watch on a cold evening with neither side giving up.

WGC 268-2 (20pts) won by 18 runs v Harpenden 250-6 (3pts)
On a fine evening WGC went in to bat after losing the toss. Pierce & Adam opened with a steady partnership of 15 without loss, Ethan & Keaton notched up 22 runs with Keaton finding the boundary for 4 but they did face some strong bowling from Alex. Owen & Max partnered for the 1st time lost our 1st wicket of the game with a great ball from Nick bowling out Max, the pair finished with 14 runs. Final pair James (Captain) & Nick communicated well when running between the wickets finishing on 17 runs with 1 wicket lost when Sam bowled James.
Harpenden started steadily with Nick & Sam at the crease losing 1 wicket to Owen and finishing with a 12 run partnership, Charlie & James, Sam C & Christian faced strong bowling from WGC with two excellent catches by Max, Ethan with a caught and bowled and Adam claiming a wicket with a perfect straight ball. The final over was bowled by Keaton who claimed a vital wicket as Alex & Joe had a superb partnership both finding the boundary for 4s and knocking up a 33 partnership bringing Harpenden's final score to 250.
Great to watch and an evenly matched game with both sides enjoying their game and improvements all round from WGC with a very steady innings and strong fielding with much more team communication.
